Free Handout: How to Prepare for Your ADHD Evaluation

ADHD is increasingly common. But that doesn’t mean every physician knows how to diagnose it — especially in adults. Take these precautions to ensure an accurate evaluation.

This one-page handout identifies the six most important steps any adult should take before consulting their physician for an ADHD evaluation.

The diagnosis process should include a clinical interview, paperwork — including questionnaires, checklists, and rating scales — a physical exam, and medical history. That’s a lot to cover in a few appointments.

Harold Meyer, director of the New York City chapter of CHADD, offers these tips for making the most of your time with your physician.

Print it out, take it to the appointment, and mark each item off as you go.
