|
REFERRAL
PROCESS
For
admission to the Centre, Small Talk, requires a referral to be made by a certified Speech & Language
Pathologist (SLP). If
you or your doctor have concerns about your child’s
language development, please have your child assessed by an SLP.
Small Talk screens and accepts children on a first-come, first-served
basis throughout the school year. If you require more information about the referral process, please do not hesitate to contact Small Talk.
A
list of SLPs is available at the
BC Association
of Speech/Language Pathologists and Audiologists. See
more information at the bottom of this page. |

| Referral Process |
| |
1. An SLP completes the Small
Talk referral form in its entirety and faxes it
to Small Talk Centre (604.872.3912). If the referring SLP is
not a Vancouver Coastal Health employee, then current reports
must be faxed with the referral. |
| |
2.
Once the referral is received, Small Talk contacts
the referring SLP and the child's family to confirm receipt
of the referral. |
| |
|
| Screening
Process |
| |
1.
Off-Site: Small Talk's resident SLP screens the child off-site,
preferably where the child is receiving speech and language
services. Depending on eligibilty, a recommendation is made
as to whether or not the child would benefit from attending
Small Talk. The bulk of the screenings take place in the spring
for consideration of fall placement. |
| |
2.
On-Site: For children not currently receiving speech
and language services, an on-site screening is arranged. During
this screening, the child is observed in the classroom with
other children currently enrolled in the program. Parents
are advised at the end of this meeting whether or not their
child would benefit from attending Small Talk Centre.
